Sandbox generally means a test instance.

Sandbox allows you go into the instance and make changes w/out affecting any live data. It is primarily used for training purposes. If your client has a test instance this is similar since you aren't changing their live data you are changing archieved data from a copied database. Data in a Sandbox is genearally dummy data or you will have to create data since the environment is Oracle out of the box. If anyone can supply login creditals to the solution beacon website that would be useful. :)
